CPT
Also known as: Carriage Paid To
An Incoterm for any mode of transport under which the seller pays carriage to a named destination, while risk passes to the buyer when the goods are handed to the first carrier.
CPT is followed by the destination, for example CPT Incheon airport. The supplier clears export and books transport to that place, but you carry the risk from the moment the goods are handed over to the carrier in China. There is no insurance obligation on either side, so arrange your own cover.
CPT is the multimodal version of CFR and is common for air freight and rail shipments quoted "to your city". Ask which destination charges are included, since unloading, import clearance and duty remain yours unless agreed otherwise. See EXW vs FOB vs DDP for the wider comparison.
