Danyang丹阳
Jiangsu
Danyang turns out more than 400 million pairs of spectacle lenses a year, which local reporting in early 2026 put at roughly 70% of China's output and about half of the world's. The county-level city, in Zhenjiang, hosts some 1,600 eyewear and supporting manufacturers and traders, and its lens makers range from commodity resin producers to firms doing blue-light, progressive and custom prescription lenses. Frames are a secondary but sizeable line, at over 100 million pairs a year. Most buyers start at China Danyang International Eyewear City, a retail and wholesale mall with more than 1,000 vendors next to Danyang high-speed rail station.

Buyer tips
- Lenses are Danyang's core strength; frames are available but Wenzhou and Xiamen (Shenzhen for premium) are often stronger for fashion and metal/titanium frames, so consider splitting lens and frame sourcing.
- Ask for the exact refractive index, monomer/material brand, coating stack (hard coat, AR, blue-cut) and abrasion/adhesion test results; cheap lenses often cut corners on coatings that peel or craze after a few months.
- For sunglasses and non-prescription readers sold in the US or EU, confirm FDA drop-ball impact testing (21 CFR 801.410) or EN ISO 12312-1 / CE UV-category labelling before shipping, and get test reports from a third-party lab rather than the factory.
- Stock lenses and standard frames can often be bought in small mixed lots at the Eyewear City, but custom tints, logos or private-label packaging usually move you to factory MOQs of several hundred to a few thousand pairs per SKU.

Port-to-port, in days. Door-to-door adds inland haulage, customs and final delivery. Most Asia–North Europe services still sail around the Cape of Good Hope; the range assumes that routing. Some services are returning to Suez from September 2026, which shortens the trip to about the “via Suez” figure.
