Shengze town in Suzhou's Wujiang district runs the China Oriental Silk Market, whose trade reached about 205.2 billion yuan in 2025, making it one of China's largest textile fabric markets. Around 7,000 fabric producers and traders cluster there, handling a large share of China's chemical-fibre fabric trade alongside traditional silk. Across the city, the Huqiu (Tiger Hill) area is China's best-known wedding-dress cluster, where Huqiu Wedding Dress City houses more than 600 shops selling bridal gowns, evening dresses and Chinese-style wedding wear. Suzhou is also a major contract electronics manufacturing base, although that side is dominated by large OEM/EMS plants rather than walk-in markets.

Buyer tips
- Huqiu shops are a mix of real workshops and resellers of the same catalogue designs; ask to see the sewing floor, and order a paid sample in your size range because bridal sizing and bust/waist grading vary widely between makers.
- Many Huqiu listings use photos lifted from Western designer collections; insist on photos of the actual sample and avoid ordering copies of branded gowns, which can be seized at customs.
- At Shengze, fabric is sold by the metre and minimums for stock greige or printed fabric can be low, but custom dyeing or printing typically needs a full lot per colour; check colour fastness, shrinkage and fibre content (silk vs. polyester 'silk-like') with a lab test.
- For EU and US buyers, ask fabric mills for OEKO-TEX Standard 100 or REACH test reports on dyes, and confirm fibre-content labelling meets FTC or EU Textile Regulation rules before it is sewn into garments.
