Most consumer products come from specialized clusters: a county, town or district where hundreds or thousands of firms make the same category, surrounded by suppliers of materials, parts, molds and packaging. Knowing the cluster for your product tells you where the real factories are, what a fair price looks like and where to go if you want to visit.
The table below lists clusters we could verify against government or state-media sources. Figures are those the sources reported at the time of publication and are dated; treat them as indicators of scale, not current market data.
Buying inside the right cluster usually means shorter supply chains and more competition. When every component supplier is within an hour's drive, factories can sample faster and price more tightly.

Zhejiang is home to many of the most specialized "one town, one product" clusters, most of them made up of private small and mid-sized firms. That makes it strong for consumer goods sold in high volumes at low unit prices.
Yiwu is the trading hub that ties much of this together, since factories from across the province sell through its market booths. If you want to visit several clusters in one trip, Yongkang and Zhuji (Datang) are close to Yiwu, and Cixi is a few hours' drive away near Ningbo. Guangdong's Pearl River Delta combines large export factories with some of the country's biggest wholesale markets. It is the default starting point for electronics, furniture and apparel.
The province's clusters are often larger and more diverse than Zhejiang's. Shenzhen and Dongguan share an electronics supply chain; Foshan's Shunde district combines furniture trading in Lecong with appliance manufacturing; and Guangzhou mixes garment wholesale with specialized districts for leather goods and denim. Chenghai, farther east near Shantou, is a separate world focused almost entirely on toys.
Fujian's clusters sit mostly around Quanzhou and are known for footwear, sportswear, ceramics and handicrafts. Many firms started as OEM suppliers to international brands and now also run their own.
Jinjiang is the place to look for athletic shoes and sportswear, while Dehua and Anxi serve home decor and gift buyers. Dehua's white porcelain has been exported for centuries; today most output is tableware, tea sets and decorative pieces.

Clusters are not quality guarantees
Being in a famous cluster tells you a supplier has access to a strong supply chain, not that it produces good goods. Quality varies enormously between neighboring factories. Always approve samples and inspect before shipment, wherever the supplier is located.
Clusters move and evolve. Rising labor costs have pushed some labor-intensive work inland or to Southeast Asia, while many coastal clusters now focus on automation, design and their own brands.
Several state-media reports cited above describe exactly this shift: Datang has invested in smart factories, Wenzhou has moved from OEM work toward its own designs, and Dehua is competing on design and licensed products rather than price alone. For buyers, the practical result is that the cheapest option is not always in the famous cluster any more, but the deepest supply chain for that product usually still is.
Factories inside the main cluster for a product usually have local access to materials, components, molds and skilled labor, which tends to mean better prices and faster samples. A supplier far from any cluster for your product may be a trading company.
