Jieyang's hardware and electromechanical industry reached about RMB 70.5 billion in 2024, spread across roughly 15,000 companies, and its stainless steel products are reported to hold around 30% of China's domestic market. The city is a major low-to-mid-price source of stainless pots, bowls, cutlery and kitchen utensils. It is also known as China's 'plastic fashion shoe' capital: its shoe industry was worth over RMB 30 billion in 2023, and its sandals and slippers sell in more than 170 countries.

Buyer tips
- Stainless grades are the biggest risk: '18/10' or '304' claims are often 201 or 430 steel. Test samples yourself (XRF or a lab test for nickel and chromium content) and write the grade into the contract.
- Food-contact compliance matters for pots, bowls and cutlery: order FDA/LFGB or EU 1935/2004 migration tests (nickel, chromium, manganese), and check that plastic or silicone handles and lids are also food-safe.
- Many Jieyang workshops stamp and polish, then subcontract welding or handles; check polishing quality, burrs on rims and weld seams on multi-ply cookware, and whether induction-compatible bases are really magnetic.
- For plastic and EVA footwear, ask for phthalate, PAH and REACH/CA Prop 65 tests on the actual compound, since recycled material is common in the cheapest lines; MOQs are often per mould, per colour, so fewer size and colour variants lower your minimums.
